New! KidsHealth resources for emergency epileptic seizure medicine

Kia ora koutou,

We are thrilled to announce a range of new multiformat resources created by our wonderful KidsHealth team and the Neurology Clinical Network. These resources are designed to support whānau in administering emergency epileptic seizure medicine to tamariki experiencing seizures lasting longer than five minutes.

What's new?

  • Original Illustrations and Photos: Several of the resources feature original illustrations created by the KidsHealth team and photos taken by a paediatric pharmacist in the Neurology Clinical Network, making the guidance visually engaging and easy to follow.
  • Multiple Formats: Understanding that everyone has different preferences, the team have made the content available in various formats, including text, illustrations, photos, printables, and videos.
  • New Explainer Videos: Videos showing the preparation of midazolam and diazepam are now available. These videos provide a clear visual guide without needing voiceovers, making the steps involved much easier to understand.
  • Printable Guides: The team has also created emergency plans for seizure first aid and the administration of buccal midazolam, intranasal midazolam, and rectal diazepam. These guides are available as both flow charts and text instructions, ensuring accessibility for everyone. The guides can be printed and kept with the emergency epileptic seizure medicine.
