MoE adopts digital safety guidelines developed with PSNZ member Julie Cullen

The Ministry of Education (MoE) has officially adopted new guidelines to support schools and kura in developing policies for the safer use of digital technologies. This marks a significant step in ensuring the health, safety, and wellbeing of tamariki and rangatahi in an increasingly digital learning environment.

Schools will have autonomy to develop their own policies, guided by evidence-based recommendations that provide a framework for decision-making. These guidelines acknowledge the benefits of digital technology while ensuring a balanced and informed approach to its use in education settings.

PSNZ’s role in shaping digital safety policy

This milestone is particularly special for the PSNZ member Julie Cullen, Project Coordinator for the General Paediatrics Network. Julie played a key role in developing these recommendations, which have been endorsed by PSNZ and now form the foundation of the MoE’s new guidelines.

Her research and expertise have been instrumental in shaping policies that will enhance digital health and safety practices in schools across Aotearoa, ensuring tamariki and rangatahi are better protected while using digital devices for learning.
