Altogether Autism hosts this two-day autism learning event exploring the theme of transition. The aim of Transitions #Breakthrough2017 is to support and empower autistic people to make successful transitions through sharing lived experience, clinical best practice and new research and initiatives.

Altogether Autism is a free, nationwide autism information and advisory service.

Every two years Altogether Autism hosts a two-day learning event, bringing together New Zealand's top line up of speakers and advisors on autism.

The theme this year is transitions and will explore the challenges people on the spectrum encounter on the journey through life.

Keynote speakers include:

Emeritus Prof Rita Jordan of the University of Birmingham speaks on current understanding of autism spectrum and the implications for education and support

Josh and Maria Man are an Asian/Kiwi/Australian sibling duo who will offer their unique insight and reflections on what it has been like dealing with life's transitions. They hope their experiences will help professionals work with families more effectively, remind families to care for each other and encourage people with autism (and their siblings) to have their voices heard.

Peter Dowrick is an expert in observational learning theory and the 'father of self-modelling'. His presentation will explore the theory of feed forward - a cognitive-behavioural principle of learning that involves the visual self-image of future success and which plays into the strength of autism.

Mind Over Manner will deliver an applied theatre workshop designed to teach professionals, caregivers and families effective strategies to support autistic youth through transitions.

Also presenting are clinical psychologist Tanya Breen; speech and language therapist Estelle Pretorius who will look at transitions in the early years; and  Rochelle Nafatali who offers a Pasifika parent's perspective on life after ASD diagnosis - to name a few.

This premier autism learning event is an opportunity to upskill, share learnings, and be immersed in positive autism culture.
